Frederick Jams @ New Spire Arts (Luna, Stitch Early, Blue Heaven) – December 6, 2018

This was a very cool lineup of artists among different genres and looks like what we’ll be seeing more of from New Spire Arts. Their upcoming “New Spire Stages” has its grand opening in January and Daniel Singh spoke a bit at Frederick Jams to let everyone know that Luna and Stitch Early will be having release shows there. Many exciting things in the works!

Luna – I’ve seen Luna in a few different settings now, the most memorable performance being at Sky Stage where she really let her good vibes and love for mother nature shine. Her blend of singer-songwriter indie pop is delightful with its fragile guitar/ukulele playing and her incredibly powerful and dynamic voice. Luna keeps it simple when she’s solo and doesn’t have to hide behind any unnecessary extras… just straightforward soul. She mentioned she is looking into finding a permanent band lineup for her upcoming “Waves For Daze” release and subsequent shows. We’ll look forward to it, Luna.

Stitch Early – Wow! This is exactly what I was talking about in learning more about local hip-hop in my “Thing 2018” review. Lorenzo Nichols is a solo hip-hop artist with so much positive energy. He always gets the crowd engaged, even those who are unwilling at first. Solid pre-made instrumentals back him and his determined and steady flow makes it impossible for anyone in the room to stand still. Maybe it’s because I mostly listen to A Tribe Called Quest and Wu Tang Clan that I listen to, but Stitch Early definitely gives off a classic sound even if his beats are coming from his phone. If it’s a lively and spirited show you want to see, he’ll provide it. Be on the lookout for his upcoming release!

Blue Heaven – This band has really gotten their sound down. I caught them at Guido’s a while ago and it was a good show, but this time I was floored. Bouncy guitar riffs and funky bass and drum rhythms make for some interesting and dreamy indie pop. They keep the crowd bouncing throughout each song, and it’s never forced. Another thing I can’t help but mention is their style! This group is always a visual spectacle… where did that bass player find that cool ass striped shirt? Ok, ok.. I got a bit off track but they’re cool. See for yourself.
